I would like to thank everyone that was able to attend our Winter Nationals and made it a great, fun four day event. I would also like to take time to thank everyone that helped there are so many from the flaggers, to the trailer personnel and so many behind the scenes individual that are forgotten and overlooked to all a very big THANK YOU.
I am looking forward to again presiding as the President of DAARA and working with a great set of officers and board members to continue to move this club forward.
Please continue to watch the web site and a newly formed Facebook site for new, fun, and upcoming events to take part in and enjoy, including the possibility of a race in July in North Carolina (on dirt).
Everyone we have heard from so far seems to be of the same opinion, that the 2011 Fall National's was our best event to date. We had an impressive car count and all classes were well represented. The weather was great; we had lots of cars, and great safe racing. On behalf of all of our DAARA officers and board member's, I do want to give a special thanks to our entire volunteer's, who came together in a joint effort to make this event a great success. Without them none of it would have been possible. We also want to give a special thanks to our "Gracious" Grand Marshall, Mrs. Rhoda Blackie. Rhoda has been such a dedicated DAARA member, officer and driver for so many years, we will miss her, and hope that she continues to visit us, whenever possible. Our event Chaplain, Pastor and Mrs. Dudley Balmer, were on hand throughout the entire event. They fellowshipped with us at our banquet, and held a comforting Sunday morning Service, on our last day. We would also like to thank both of them, for the work that they do, and the comfort they provide, at our National events. There are too many volunteers to name them all, but please know that each of you is appreciated.
We would like to thank long distance attendee's Jerry and Linda Wortman from Montana, for their efforts in being with us. They had a family emergency and had to make a turnaround trip back home. Our prayers and thoughts go out to them and their family. We hope to see you again in March under better circumstances. Then there is Ron Hess, no one has ever worked harder to get his cars on the track. Yes, Ron when you bring two cars with you, you have more like three times the work. Perseverance did pay off and he was able to get them both on the track. Daara's banquet was another success. The SVS's awards were given out in a beautiful atmosphere, the food was excellent, and my wife Karen Dunn and Cinthia Miller out did themselves on decorating the hall. Our new officers were also announced there. We would like to welcome back Dale Miller, as our in- coming President. Janis Strickland will make a welcomed addition also, to our DAARA team as our new treasurer. James Knapp will continue to be Secretary (and web master) and I will also continue as Vice President. We would also like to thank our returning board members for all their hard work and efforts this year, and we all look forward to working together as a team. We are sure that 2012 and beyond will be even more successful. Yes, we are already working on 2012 and hope to make the March Nationals even more entertaining. If that is possible. Thanks again to everyone who helped to make 2011 such a great year. Without each and every one of you and your hard work and devotion, it would have just been another club. It is our hope that with the great comradery, respect, and team work of our DAARA team, that we will make each and every member feel welcome and truly a part of our DAARA family.
The waters, inlets and coves surrounding Florida’s coasts have been the refuge of infamous pirates for centuries. From pillaging Spanish galleons carrying gold to Civil War blockade runners disrupting supply lines, the pirates of Florida were once feared and respected. Navigating tempestuous waters from Fort Myers down to Sanibel and Captiva Islands, south to Naples and east to the coveted Keys, these pirates and privateers embodied freedom and adventure. They secured their places in history while fighting the likes of presidents, armadas and international powers. Authors James and Sarah Kaserman recount the swashbuckling tales of Black Caesar, Anne Bonny, “Calico Jack” Rackham and even the legend of Gasparilla. Brimming with historical facts and local myths, Florida Pirates offers the definitive guide to the scoundrels who plundered the Sunshine State’s warm coasts throughout history and to the present day.
