JIM KASERMAN #21 1951 FORD CONVERTIBLE

This stock car began its* racing career in the then popular NASCAR Convertible Division, which raced between 1951 and 1958 on the old Beach Course at Daytona Beach, Florida. A *Sun liner* hardtop was added when the convertible division was eliminated and the car began racing the short tracks throughout the Southeastern United States. The original engine was a 312 cubic inch Ford Flathead V8. Some songs of the day called this engine a *hot rod Lincoln.* During the short track days, a 300 cubic inch Ford Truck Engine, also called a *straight six*, replaced the Flathead V8. After finishing in 3rd Place in the 2006 Daytona Antique Automobile Racing Southern Vintage Series, a V8 Ford replaced the old truck engine. After 55 years of racing, old 21 continues to race throughout the state of Florida! Car Owners & Driver: Jim and Sarah Jane Kaserman..

DRIVER INFORMATION: Jim Kaserman began circle track racing in a 1947 Curtiss Midget and was basically the third car of a three car team, driving for ACRS Racing during the summer of 1961. During that season he scored five wins, including two feature wins. During the years 1962 through 1964, he drove both midgets and sprint cars and in 1963 may have set an "altitude recordduring a flip in which the sprint car ahead blew its engine and Jim's car ran over the car's left rear wheel to begin a series of flips. In 1964 he drove during the last season of "convertible races" in a 1957 Chevrolet. After serving in the army and getting married, Jim returned to racing in 1968, driving both stock cars and go karts. He raced 1961 Chevrolet Impala Bubble Tops during those years and claims that because he wrecked so many, the value of these cars has been enhanced. He won a three-engined go kart event in 1974 and admits it was the scariest drive he has ever experienced. After raising a family and with the blessing of his wife, Sarah Jane, Jim returned to vintage car racing in 2006!

JIM'S 1961 CHEVY IMPALA BUBBLE TOP WAS HIS ORIGINAL "SPIRIT OF '76" WHICH HE DROVE FROM 1970--1972.. COLLECTERS SHOULD THANK HIM FOR WRECKING A FEW OF THE BUBBLE TOPS WHICH NOW HAS DRIVEN UP THE REMAINING IMPALA'S HARDTOP VALUES..

DID YOU KNOW WE HAVE A PIRATE IN THE DAARA ORGANIZATION...???...READ THIS NOTE FROM JAMES AND SARAH KASERMAN OWNERS OF CAR #21...

We have had a very eventful Friday, July 7, 2006

Today, we were featured on the front page of the Fort Myers Beach Bulletin newspaper, including our photo. This is a great weekly gig for us as we typically sell 20 to 30 books of each of our titles per weekend as well as meet thousands of people from all over the world. Heaven knows how many people take our free bookmarks from our presentations and order books from their hometown booksellers or online. You can view the article below..

Aaaaarg Beach Matey Pirates return to the BeachBY MELISSA SCHNEIDER, mschneider@breezenewspapers.com Local pirate enthusiasts and historians Jim and Sarah Jane Kaserman will perform at the Shipwreck Treasures shop Thursday, Friday, Saturday and holiday nights, 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Photo provided by JIM KASERMAN After a long slumber, pirates have returned to the Beach’s shore. Jim and Sarah Jane Kaserman, local authors, musicians and historians, are intrigued by the life of pirates, and are passing their knowledge and interest to fellow landlubbers in the area. “We both enjoy the Revolutionary era,” said Sarah Jane Kaserman. “Doing the historical research is half of the fun.” Jim and Sarah Jane have appeared and spoken at several festivals, schools, TV spots and pirate events nationally, and look forward to educating the Beach crowd. “We love being on the Beach and meeting different people from all over the country,” said Jim Kaserman. The duo will appear at the Shipwreck Treasures shop Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and holidays, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. each night, performing a variety of piratical antics. During the performance, the team is dressed in 18th-century pirate wardrobe, telling tales of the days that pirates sailed and history of the fleets, while strumming maritime melodies on Sarah Jane’s fiddle and showing several authentic pirate artifacts. The Kasermans have been interested in pirate lore and history for decades and show it in their collection of books they have written, all of which are available at the Fort Myers Beach Library, including “The Legend of Gasparilla: A Tale for All Ages,” which is used in 44 Florida school districts; “Gasparilla Pirate Genius (more adult-oriented),” which was voted “Florida’s Book of the Year” and “Best Florida Book;” and their newest release “How the Pirates Saved Christmas,” which is currently up for a number of awards. The Kaserman’s books will be on-hand for purchase and signing during their performances, as well as available online. “Look forward to more pirate festivals on the Beach,” said Jim Kaserman.

When we arrived home from a successful early performance and book signing at the Port Charlotte (FL) Towne Center Mall (Waldenbooks and Regal Cinemas) where we entertained literally hundreds of people and sold a goodly number of books, we were thrilled to find out via email that our THE LEGEND OF GASPARILLA, A TALE FOR ALL AGES has been named a genre finalist in the Hollywood, CA Book Festival.

The Hollywood Book Festival has selected the finalists for its 2006 awards honoring books that deserve greater recognition from the film, television, game, and multimedia communities.

Winners will be announced at a special ceremony at Tangier Restaurant in Los Angeles on Saturday, July 8 from 7 until 10 p.m. (Pacific Time) We will let you know the results of this wonderful award if we are lucky enough to win it. With all the potential trademarked and designed pirate items we have, The Legend of Gasparilla would make a great film to take advantage of all the pirate mania we were a part of in Port Charlotte this morning. Let's hope we are hoisting a mug of GASPARILLA SARSAPARILLA toasting a win on Sunday!!!

CAROLINA GEM STONE IN THE ROUGH

JIM AND SARAH KASERMAN'S SON WHO DRIVES FOR FEDEX GROUND IN HAYWOOD COUNTY, N.C. (town of Clyde) SAW THE ROOF THROUGH THE WEEDS AND A SMALL TREE GROWTH. THE CAR, COMPLETE WITH PARNELLI JONES TIRES, WAS LITERALLY CHAINED TO A 30 FOOT TREE AND HUNG ON THE SIDE OF A MOUNTAIN WITH CHAIN AND GRAPPLING HOOK. IT HAD BEEN THERE FOR FOR ABOUT 30 YEARS AND THE TREE HAD GROWN OVER AND AROUND THE CHAIN, NECESSITATING THEM TO ACTUALLY HAVING TO CUT DOWN THE TREESO THEY COULD ROLL THE CAR DOWN THE HILLSIDE TO A ROLLBACK.

THE NORTH CAROLINA JEWEL IS A 1964 CHEVY II NASCAR STOCK CAR AND ACCORDING TO THE FORMER OWNER THE CHASSIS/FRAME IS A 1957 CHEVY THAT RACED NASCAR BEFORE THE BODY WAS REPLACED WITH THE CURRENT BODY...

THE ROLL CAGE IS WELL DESIGNED AND CONSTRUCTED...THE FRONT A-FRAMES HAVE BOLTS WITH WELDED SOCKETS THAT CAN BE ADJUSTED...THE CAR HAS A 8-LUG TRUCK REAR END...THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL HAS A 5 INCH CENTER AND 5 LUGS.. THE OLD STEEL FUEL CELL AND ENCLOSED TUBING FOR BOTH GAS LINE AND BRAKE LINES..BATTERY BOX IS ALL WELDED STEEL AND SITS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR...THE SEAT WAS HAND BUILT ALL STEEL AND HAS A FIVE POINT AIRCRAFT STYLE SEAT BELT..

THE CAR HAS BOTH THE NUMBER "4" AND EARLIER MAY HAVE BEEN "33"..THE LAST COLOR IT RAN WAS RED WITH SILVER PAINTED WHEELS...ALTHOUGH THE FRONT RIMS BOTH HAD A PETTY BLUE PAINT UNDER THE SILVER PAINT...OTHER MARKINGS ARE A PROMINIENT "ASHEVILLE, NC" ON THE BACK TRUNK PANEL AND AN "UNIDENTIFIABLE__AUTO PART" ON THE REAR FENDERS..

THE CAR HAS RACED AT ASHVILLE, HICKORY, NORTH WILKESBORO, AND MANY OTHER TRACKS IN NORTH CAROLINA AND TENNESSEE... IT HAS BEEN SUGGESTED THAT THIS CAR MAY HAVE BEEN DRIVEN AT ASHEVILLE BY BOB PRESSLEY, FATHER OF CURRENT NASCAR DRIVER ROBERT PRESSLEY..

NEXT ON JIM'S RESTORATION PROJECT IS HAVING THE CAR SODA BLASTED AND THEN PRIMED INSIDE AND OUT...NEXT WILL BE REPAIRING DENTS AND RUST HOLES....HE'S PLANNING TO HAVE IT PAINTED DARK METALLIC BLUE WITH WHITE LETTERING EDGED IN RED AND TRIM...

WHEN YOU NEED MATERIAL WHY NOT USE WHATS HANDY SUCH AS THE YELLOW ROAD SIGN INCORPORATED INTO THE FUEL CELL...

EARLY FUEL CELL TECHNOLOGY INVOLVED ALUMINUM TRAFFIC WARNING SIGNS AS FOUND DURING THE RESTORATION PROJECT..

JIM IS STILL SHAKING HIS HEAD OVER THE BUNCUMBE COUNTY NORTH CAROLINA ENGINEERING..
